LONDON – 4th April 2016: Cause4, an organisation that champions disruptive philanthropy and new ways of scaling up charities and social enterprises, announced today that it has become a Certified B Corporation, one of only 79 UK businesses to achieve this status.

Certified B Corporations meet higher standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. The certification is similar to a Fair Trade stamp but for the whole business. The performance standards are comprehensive and transparent. Unlike traditional corporations, Certified B Corporations are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions not only on their shareholders, but also on their stakeholders (e.g., workers, suppliers, community, consumers, and the environment).

B Corps are important because they inspire all businesses to compete not only to be the best in the world, but to be the best for the world. Certified B Corporations are unified in their goal – to redefine success in business.

“Since we launched we have always strived to be transparent and to benefit society, so becoming a B Corp was a natural next step,” saidCause4’s Chief Executive and Founder Michelle Wright. “We’re committed to shaking things up for the better. This certification is a seal of endorsement for our way of doing things across the company. It’s encouraging and motivating. It feels like an important chapter in our story.”

To become B Corp Certified Cause4 underwent rigorous evaluation to determine the services provided were socially and environmentally conscious. Ultimately, the business has to consider employees, the environment and community when making decisions instead of being driven by profit. Cause4 works in partnership with corporations, charities and people to develop important charitable projects, create new business models, as well as to raise vital funds.  Learning lessons from the private sector to benefit not-for-profit organisations, since set up in May 2009,Cause4 has raised over £46 million for clients, and is committed to helping attract the best graduate talent to work on some of the world’s most pressing issues.

By becoming B Corp Certified Cause4 joins the ranks of other social and environmental businesses globally, such as Ben & Jerry’s and Etsy that use business as a force for good.

“We are pleased to support the development of these materials, through Arts Fundraising & Philanthropy, to provide a comprehensive bank of knowledge and experience that can be easily accessed by leaders of arts organisations and practitioners, both in the UK and internationally. One of our priorities at the Arts Council is to help arts and cultural organisations become more resilient and sustainable as they explore new revenue streams.”
